Carrying pigs away from floods in a deeply flooded commune in Quang Tri

CÔNG SÁNG |

Quang Tri - Prolonged heavy rain caused many areas of the province to be deeply flooded, and authorities and people are urgently moving livestock and assets to flee the flood.

On the morning of November 1, many roads in Phong Nha commune (Quang Tri province) were still submerged in water, some places were flooded over 1m.

In Cu Lac 2 residential group, the water has receded about 20cm compared to early morning, but people's lives are still disrupted, many areas are still isolated.

Ms. Tran Thi Uyen (Cu Lac 2 residential group, Phong Nha commune) said that on the morning of the same day, her family had to transport the two pigs to a higher area to ensure safety.

She called neighbors to help, put the pigs in baskets and moved to a higher house. Thanks to that, the pets are safe.

Not only Ms. Uyen's family, many households in the area are also busy raising their belongings, moving livestock and poultry to safety. Some households also cooperate with each other, sharing barns and dry space to store livestock and assets.

According to the People's Committee of Phong Nha commune, heavy rain in recent days has caused water levels to rise in Phuc Dong village 3 and the Cay Trung dam area (Phuc Khe village 1), with some areas flooded more than 1m. The authorities have placed warning signs, sent forces to be on duty to guide people not to go through fast-flowing water, and supported the raising of property and evacuating livestock to safety.

The commune leaders recommended that people continue to monitor the flood situation, proactively move livestock, food and household items to higher ground, and not be subjective when the water recedes slowly.

Local authorities are reviewing low-lying areas and preparing emergency evacuation plans if heavy rain continues.
