According to statistics from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, from the beginning of 2025 to the beginning of August, there were 972 cases of African swine fever in 718/3321 communes and wards in 33/34 provinces and cities (after the merger); the number of dead and destroyed pigs was 100.519 pigs.
Up to now, the whole country still has 542 communes and wards of 30/34 provinces and cities with African swine fever that has not passed 21 days. The situation of selling, buying, selling, and transporting sick pigs and dead pigs; slaughtering and consuming sick pigs and dead pigs; throwing pig carcasses into the environment, ... has complicated developments, tending to increase, seriously affecting the pig farming industry, the supply of protein and the environment, negatively affecting socio-economic development and ensuring food safety.

According to Mr. Phan Quang Minh - Deputy Director of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine has issued more than 60 administrative documents related to the work of preventing overlapping African swine fever, including an official dispatch on the establishment of a working group to guide, urge, and implement disease prevention and control on livestock and state management of animal Husbandry and veterinary medicine according to the 2-level local government model.
According to the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, the local authorities at both levels have just come into operation, the area is large, the animal Husbandry and veterinary management system is not yet complete, so there is still confusion in the work of preventing and controlling animal diseases in general and African swine fever in particular. In addition, the work of monitoring, detecting, reporting and announcing the epidemic is not timely, the government and specialized agencies are still subjective, negligent, and do not fully understand epidemic information, causing the situation of pig trafficking or struggling to find an environment for the epidemic to spread.
Although there are sanctions, they are not enough to deter and many localities have not yet applied this sanction.
"We have also been to some localities such as Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc, Thanh Hoa... but we cannot go to the field but can only guide and direct the handling after the incidents occur.
When there is an intervention, the situation will not recur, but it is also passive. In the coming time, the Department will also try to direct and provide close guidance in localities. But the most important thing is still the participation and involvement of local authorities and veterinary staff at the commune level" - Mr. Minh said.
Previously, the Party Committee of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment issued an official dispatch requesting the Standing Committees of the Provincial Party Committees and the Central City Party Committees to focus on leading and directing the synchronous and drastic implementation of urgent measures to prevent African swine fever.
In which, it emphasized the regular direction of strengthening inspection, urging, and supervision of the organization of prevention and control of African swine fever. Resolutely handle officials and individuals who are subjective, negligent, or lack responsibility in leadership and direction, do not detect epidemics in a timely manner or do not handle them thoroughly, allowing the epidemic to spread widely or prolong the rain, causing economic damage and negatively affecting people's lives.
