According to the reporter's records at Hung Tay toll station (Hung Nguyen, Nghe An) until more than 8:00 am this morning, the number of vehicles passing through the station was not too crowded. From 0:00 am this morning, the unit started to collect automatic tolls in all lanes.
Early this morning, Mr. Nguyen Van Hung (38 years old, residing in Dien Chau town, Dien Chau district, Nghe An) drove his car into Dien Cat toll station to go to Vinh.
“Previously, I often went to Vinh on National Highway 1A, but since the North-South Expressway section Dien Chau - Bai Vot was inaugurated, I switched to the expressway because it is faster, more convenient, and safer. I really liked the free ride at first, but now I have to pay the fee because it is worth it. The toll collection using non-stop technology is very fast and convenient,” Hung shared.

According to records, the number of vehicles using the highway is mainly trucks, some cars with less than 9 seats, and family cars. Although National Highway 1A is also open, many people choose the highway because it is superior in terms of speed, safety, and time savings.
Besides, some people who do not need to travel at high speed still choose to travel on Highway 1A for free.

The above fee is included in the contract signed between the investor and the Ministry of Transport, approved by the competent authorities. Collection period is 16 years, 6 months, 8 days.
Vehicles traveling on short routes will have reduced fees. For example, cars with less than 12 seats, trucks with a capacity of less than 2 tons, and buses traveling from the beginning of the Dien Chau - Bai Vot expressway at the intersection of National Highway 7 to Nghi Phuong intersection, Nghi Loc district (15.76 km) will have a fee of VND26,305. The same type of vehicle traveling from Nghi Phuong toll station to the intersection of National Highway 46B, Hung Nguyen district, Nghe An (28.8 km) will have to pay VND48,070.
The entire route has 4 toll stations, of which 3 are located in Nghe An: Dien Cat commune, Dien Chau district; Nghi Phuong commune, Nghi Loc district; National Highway 46B intersection in Hung Tay commune, Hung Nguyen district. The remaining station in Ha Tinh is located at the National Highway 8 intersection through Thanh Binh Thinh commune, Duc Tho district.
These toll stations all use a non-stop electronic toll collection system for all lanes, applying radio wave object recognition technology, free multi-lane ETC input, single-lane ETC output. Vehicles entering the expressway must use the non-stop electronic toll collection service.
The Dien Chau - Bai Vot Expressway component project is 49.3 km long, passing through Nghe An (44.4 km) and Ha Tinh (4.9 km) provinces, and was started in May 2021. Phase one of the project has a scale of 4 lanes, 2 lanes on each side, a 17 m wide roadbed, allowing cars to run at a maximum speed of 90 km/h, and a minimum speed of 60 km/h.
The project has a total investment capital of over VND 11,150 billion, of which the investor mobilized capital of about VND 5,090 billion and the State participated in over VND 6,060 billion. The BOT contract was signed between the Ministry of Transport and a consortium of 6 investors.
The route, together with National Highway 45 - Nghi Son, Nghi Son - Dien Chau, creates a longitudinal axis from Phap Van Expressway (Hanoi) to Duc Tho District (Ha Tinh) with a total length of more than 300 km.
The project contributes to shortening the travel time from Hanoi to Duc Tho district (Ha Tinh) from more than 6 hours if going by National Highway 1 to 4 - 5 hours.
The project began operating the entire route on June 29, 2024, and since then has provided free service to about 3.5 million vehicles.
