Mo Vang commune was merged from Mo Vang commune (Van Yen district, old Yen Bai province) and An Luong commune (Van Chan district, old Yen Bai province). This is a locality where the majority of the H'Mong ethnic people live, life is still difficult and arduous.
This is a locality in a particularly difficult commune in Lao Cai province, with incomplete infrastructure, and roads cut off with many streams, cages, and high mountains.

Due to the impact of storm No. 10, the locality is suffering severe consequences when traffic is cut off due to landslides, currently no traffic can be reached. Communications were lost, there was no signal, electricity, or water.
Not to mention, the iron bridge from Sai Luong 1 village to Khoi kia group was swept away by floodwaters; the Da Den bridge project in Khe Trau village, under construction, was swept away by floodwaters with equipment and construction materials...
Meanwhile, at Khe Long 2 Kindergarten - Mo Vang Kindergarten, 15km from the commune center, but up to 5km had to be ridden by motorbike or on foot, which was severely damaged by flash floods.

Infrastructure was destroyed, teaching equipment was completely damaged, and school supplies were buried under a layer of rock and soil up to 2m thick.
Teacher Ngo Thi Bich Thao - Principal of Mo Vang Kindergarten - said that there is one main school and 5 branch schools in the commune. Due to the impact of storms and floods, Khe Long 2 is extremely damaged and is difficult to repair.
According to Ms. Thao, at around 4:30 p.m. on September 29, when the students had just finished school, 3 streams behind the school suddenly experienced flash floods.

"At that time, 42 students in the mixed class from 3-5 years old had just finished school, only teacher Do Thanh Van (born in 1995) and Ms. Pham Thi Son (born in 1988) were cleaning up at school. When seeing people around shout, the two teachers only managed to run up the high hill to avoid the flood, not having time to move the school's equipment and machinery."
About an hour later, the flood passed, people and teachers immediately came to the school to support but only the ruins remained. The scene left the school with a layer of rock and soil thicker than 2m, littered with trees and mud.
In classrooms, teaching and learning equipment was washed away and completely damaged, toys and school supplies were also buried under a thick layer of mud. The classroom was also collapsed by floods, making it unsafe for children to study.

According to Ms. Thao, Khe Long 2 school was built in 2015, and in 2024, Vietcombank's youth union supported nearly 100 million VND to repair it, ensuring the teaching and learning of children. But up to now, floods have caused serious consequences, the estimated repair cost is up to more than 600 million VND.
"The school hopes for the support of local authorities and benefactors to help build a new school in a safer location. Including classrooms, kitchens and equipment to ensure the teaching and learning of children", teacher Ngo Thi Bich Thao shared.

Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Tran Tuan Anh - Vice Chairman of Mo Vang Commune People's Committee - said that the locality is currently giving top priority to overcoming the consequences of floods. Due to the isolated terrain, landslides, damaged electricity, water, and communication, it is difficult to direct natural disaster prevention work.
However, the locality also assigned departments and the commune's professional board to urgently study the location and balance budget sources to urgently repair Khe Long 2 school so that children can go to school as soon as possible.
In the immediate future, the school will be assigned to encourage parents to pick up and drop off children at Khe Long 1 school about 7km away. However, the infrastructure here does not ensure that 42 children can attend the same school.
