Can eating fruit limit osteoporosis?

Osteoporosis is a common chronic disease, especially in older adults, postmenopausal women and people with reduced exercise.

Osteoporosis is a condition of decreased bone density and weakened bone structure, which can easily lead to fractures. While many people only pay attention to calcium and vitamin D in preventing osteoporosis, fruit also plays an equally important role.

Fruit contains many vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that help protect bone health. In particular, fruits rich in vitamin C such as oranges, kiwis, strawberries have the effect of supporting the formation of collagen - an important component of bone tissue. Vitamin K found in fruits such as plums and grapes also plays a role in regulating calcium metabolism and maintaining bone density.

Research shows that diets rich in fruits and vegetables are associated with higher bone density and a lower risk of fractures. Fruit also contains a lot of potassium and magnesium, which help neutralize acids in the body - a factor that is believed to contribute to the loss of calcium from bones.

In particular, fruits such as dried plums, bananas, oranges, avocados and pineapples are said to be beneficial in maintaining bone mass and reducing bone loss in the elderly if used regularly in the diet.

However, fruit cannot completely replace the role of calcium, vitamin D and physical activity. Eat fruit that should be combined with milk, dairy products, sunlight and exercise regularly to achieve optimal osteoporosis prevention results.
