Developing nearly 280,000 union members
In 2024, the Standing Committee of the 5 City Labor Federation closely followed the functions and tasks of the Trade Union organization and the direction of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and the City Party Committee, developing programs and plans to implement the tasks in 2024 with many innovative, creative, focused and key activities.
The City Labor Federation 5 directed the Trade Union to coordinate with the professional level to organize labor conferences (LD) at 5,909 units; 5,885 enterprises signed Collective Labor Agreements (CLAs). In 2024 alone, the units signed 1,672 new collective labor agreements and negotiated with employers to adjust the value of shift meals to the prescribed level.
On the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2024, the City Labor Federation 5 has directed all levels of the Trade Union to implement a series of programs "Tet Sum Vay - Xuan Ung Deng", with the motto "All union members and workers have Tet" with 1.72 million workers, civil servants and laborers being cared for and supported, with an amount of over 951 billion VND.
The "Union Meal" activity aims to thank workers on the occasion of "Workers' Month associated with the Labor Safety and Hygiene Month", Trade Unions at all levels coordinate with employers to organize and support 38,564 union members and workers in difficult circumstances with an amount of more than 168 billion VND. Patriotic emulation movements, promoting initiatives and topics were promoted with 179,746 initiatives, with a value of over VND 86.2 billion.
The City Labor Federation has developed 276,143 union members, accounting for 23% of the total number of additional union members nationwide; established 2,471 grassroots unions, introduced 42,070 union members to the Party organization for consideration and training.
To create a premise for 2025, Trade Unions at all levels continue to promote the achieved results, organize meaningful and practical activities and compete to achieve many achievements to welcome Party Congresses at all levels towards the 14th National Party Congress and the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day.
Resolutely implement the 2025 theme
At the conference, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Khang - Member of the Party Central Committee, President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor - emphasized that 2024 is a year of great significance for the Vietnam Trade Union organization. This is the first year of implementing the Resolution of the 13th Congress of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, celebrating the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor.
In particular, on November 27, 2024, the 15th National Assembly passed the Trade Union Law (amended), creating an important legal corridor for the Trade Union organization to continue to innovate and improve the quality of activities, meeting the requirements and tasks in the new situation in the spirit of Resolution No. 02-NQ/TW, dated June 12, 2021 of the Politburo.
On behalf of the Presidium of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Khang acknowledged, commended and highly appreciated the important contributions of the 5-City Labor Federation in the general results of all levels of trade unions nationwide.
Determining that 2025 will have advantages and difficulties, the President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor suggested that the 5 City Labor Confederations continue to promote the achievements of 2024 by replicating good models and effective methods.
Units must proactively report and take advantage of the attention, leadership and direction of local Party committees to receive close and timely leadership and direction of the City with the theme of activities in 2025 "Focusing on developing union members; participating in building a clean and strong Party". In particular, focusing on the task of developing union members and establishing grassroots unions. This is an important, core task of the organization.
At the same time, pay attention to disseminating the contents to put the Trade Union Law into practice; Focus on implementing resolutions, programs, and projects to implement the Resolution of the 13th Congress of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Action Program No. 02/CTr-TLD dated July 20, 2021 to implement the Resolution of the 13th National Congress of the Party, Resolution 02-NQ/TW of the Politburo on innovation of the organization and operation of Vietnam General Confederation of Labor in the new situation.
On this occasion, Emulation Cluster of the City Labor Federation 5 signed an emulation colution in 2025; committed to seriously implementing and determined to strive to compete to complete the targets and tasks contained in the colution.
President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor donates 20 houses in Bac Lieu
On the afternoon of February 25, the working delegation of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor led by Mr. Nguyen Dinh Khang - Member of the Party Central Committee, President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor - worked in Bac Lieu province. Receiving the delegation were Mr. Lu Van Hung - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council, Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Bac Lieu province and members of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee.
During the working trip, the President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor mobilized resources from 2 enterprises and units: VICEM Ha Tien Cement Joint Stock Company, Vietnam National Shipping Lines Trade Union to donate 20 houses with a total value of 1.2 billion VND to the program "Eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses" of Bac Lieu province. After receiving the program, the locality will immediately conduct a review and promptly support 20 poor and near-poor households under the program "Eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses" in the locality.
Bac Lieu Provincial Party Secretary Lu Van Hung and members of the Provincial Party Standing Committee thanked the President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Nguyen Dinh Khang for his attention and support; at the same time, he hoped that leaders and businesses would continue to support Bac Lieu in implementing social security work well, completing the goal of "Eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses"...

Before the conference, President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Nguyen Dinh Khang and the working delegation presented 50 gifts to union members and workers in difficult circumstances, each worth 1.3 million VND.
Receiving the gift in hand, female union member Nguyen Thi Thuy Duong - a worker at Kwong Lung - Meko Company Limited - was moved: "Working at the company for 18 years is about that year I joined the Trade Union organization. This is not only a material gift but also a great motivation for me to feel secure in producing, completing the company's targets as well as actively participating in activities organized by the Trade Union".
Sharing the same joy, Mr. Huynh Le Duy Trac - a worker at Tay Do Garment Joint Stock Company - shared that since joining the Trade Union, the male worker has had another reliable support. The union not only cares about the regimes and benefits but is also ready to support him when he encounters difficulties.
