The international emergency aid shipment of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is the first international aid shipment for Vietnamese localities affected by natural disasters caused by Typhoons No. 10 and 11. The Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) was assigned by the National Civil Defense Steering Committee as a focal point for coordination, information sharing and connection between sponsors and local authorities of affected provinces.
During the receipt of the aid, Mr. Nguyen Van Tien, Deputy Director of the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, was the representative to receive the emergency aid. On the Japanese side, Mr. Ito Naoki - Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam and Mr. Sugano Yuichi - Chief Representative of JICA Vietnam - attended.
The aid includes 40 water filtration devices, 5,100 blankets, 1,000 plastic containers containing water and 50 multi-purpose plastic sheets. After receiving the shipment, the shipment will be delivered to Bac Ninh province tomorrow morning (October 14) so that the locality can organize the distribution to people in disaster areas.

At the aid delivery ceremony, Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Ito Naoki expressed his deepest condolences to the Government and people of Vietnam for the losses and damages caused by recent floods, especially in the Northern and North Central provinces. In the face of increasingly complex natural disasters in Vietnam, the Japanese Government said it will continue to support Vietnam in improving its capacity to prevent natural disasters and adapt to climate change.
Deputy Director of the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control Nguyen Van Tien expressed his gratitude for the valuable support of the Government and people of Japan. At the same time, he affirmed that the Department will take on a coordinating role and promptly transfer the aid to Bac Ninh province so that the locality can deliver it to people affected by natural disasters.
In addition to today's shipment from Japan, the Department plans to deploy the work of receiving relief goods from the Australian Government, Russia, the ASEAN Coordinating Center for Humanitarian Assistance (AHA Center) and many other international organizations.
These relief sources include essential necessities, kitchen appliances, living and repairing homes, water filtration equipment, personal hygiene and cash to support localities. Relief goods will be distributed to localities heavily affected by the recent "storm on storm, flood on flood" period, especially the northern provinces such as Lang Son, Cao Bang, Thai Nguyen, Tuyen Quang, Bac Ninh.
