On June 11, information from Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital said that in just the past week, the hospital has continuously received 2 cases of children drowning in very serious condition.

On June 4, patient N.T.K.T. (born in 2020) was admitted to the hospital in a deep coma, respiratory failure, pulmonary edema and circulatory failure. The child was given a very serious prognosis, threatening to die.
According to the child's family, more than 1.5 hours before being admitted to the hospital, T. was playing in the garden and fell into the family's dirty pond. When discovered, T. was unconscious. When the child was taken up, he was given first aid on the spot, forced to have a heart outside the chest (as a medical staff member). On the way to the district hospital, the child continued to have a heart attack and was hospitalized in a coma. Here, the doctors arranged the placement of endotracheal tube, infusion, diuretic and transferred him to Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital for further treatment.
After 5 days of treatment, the patient was still in a coma, with very serious brain and lung damage, still dependent on a ventilator, and was at risk of leaving serious neurological sequelae.
The second child was admitted to the hospital at 10:58 a.m. on June 8 in a state of cardiac arrest, deep coma, respiratory failure and circulatory failure.
According to the family, about 1 hour before being admitted to the hospital, the child fell into the swimming pool (about 4 minutes in the water). The family discovered him submerged in water, unconscious and stopped breathing, and had a cardiac arrest.
Immediately upon admission, the child was actively resuscitated and given comprehensive care such as mechanical ventilation, prescribed targeted temperature control therapy, and continuous blood filtration, but the prognosis was very poor, threatening death.
Through the above incidents, according to the doctor's recommendation, drowning accidents in children are a common risk, increasing the trend during hot weather, summer vacation, and holidays.
Every year, Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital receives and treats many drowning patients with different conditions, but not all of them are lucky to survive. The treatment outcome depends on many factors, in which the detection and on-site first aid process is extremely important.
