The latest storm information from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said that low pressure 09a is likely to develop into a tropical depression/storm in the next 24 hours. If it strengthens into a tropical depression, the system will be named Lannie.
Also according to PAGASA's 2-week storm forecast, during the week of September 5-10, low pressure 1 will appear in the west of Northern Luzon, with an average probability of developing into a storm, then moving towards Hainan Island (China). At the same time, low pressure 2 will form in the northern part of the Philippine Sea but the possibility of strengthening is low.
In the week of September 12-18, low pressure 3 is forecast to appear in the Luzon area and move to the East Sea, but the possibility of developing into a storm is still low.
PAGASA said that this September, the Philippines may welcome two to four typhoons forming or entering the PAR area. Forecast scenarios show that September typhoons may pass through Northern or Southern Luzon, or change direction to the north, towards Taiwan (China) or southern Japan.
In August, up to 5 tropical cyclones formed or entered the Philippines, including: Tropical Depression Fabian, Tropical Depression Gorio (Podul), Tropical Depression Huaning, Tropical Kajiki and Tropical Depression Jacinto. This figure is higher than the average of 4 storms/month that PAGASA expects.
Meanwhile, according to the Vietnam National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from now until the end of 2025, there may be 5-7 storms or tropical depressions in the East Sea. It is likely that 1/2 of them will affect the mainland of Vietnam. Storms and tropical depressions at the end of the season often affect the area from the Central region to the south.
The activities of storms and tropical depressions combined with cold air are forecast to increase the possibility of high-intensity rain in a short time, leading to the risk of urban flooding, industrial parks, flash floods, and landslides in the mountainous areas west of the Central region.
Previously, in August 2025, there were 2 storms and 2 tropical depressions in the East Sea, of which 2 storms and 1 tropical depression in mid-August directly affected the mainland of Vietnam.
