The latest storm forecast from the Hong Kong Meteorological Department (China) said that storm No. 6 Tra Mi in the east of the Philippines is likely to upgrade to a severe tropical storm on October 22 and become stronger into a typhoon on October 25.
It is forecasted that when Tra Mi moves towards the center of the East Sea, the storm will be about 800km from Hong Kong (China). By the afternoon of October 26, Tra Mi is likely to be closest to Hong Kong (China), at a distance of 400km and downgraded to a severe tropical storm.
However, the Hong Kong (China) weather forecasting agency noted that there is still much uncertainty about the next path of Tra Mi. The possibility of "the storm entering the northeastern part of the East Sea is higher," the agency's bulletin stated.
Regarding the forecast of the path of storm Tra Mi, the Hong Kong (China) weather agency said that there is a possibility that the latest storm in the East Sea will move westward to the central and northern areas of the East Sea, or another scenario is that this storm will move northwestward, closer to the southern coast of China.
In addition to Typhoon Tra Mi, the northeast monsoon is moving toward southern China on October 22. As a result, the weather across the region is forecast to be significantly cooler in the morning and at night over the next few days.
The Philippine weather agency PAGASA expects Tra Mi to strengthen into a typhoon as it enters the South China Sea. From there, Tra Mi could move toward central Vietnam or closer to the southern coast of China.
According to The Standard Channel, the northeast monsoon is forecast to strengthen in southern China this weekend. Under the combined impact of the northeast monsoon and tropical storm, wind and showers are expected in the northern part of the South China Sea and the southern coast of China this weekend and early next week.
Meanwhile, the latest storm news from Taiwan News said that storm Tra Mi is expected to affect the weather in Taiwan (China) from October 24.
The CWA warns that the outer circulation of Typhoon Tra Mi may approach Taiwan on October 24 and 25. The influence of Typhoon Tra Mi combined with the northeast monsoon may cause heavy rain in the north and east of the island.
The CWA forecasts that Tra Mi will move westward toward the South China Sea, but the path of the latest storm that formed from a tropical depression near the Philippines remains uncertain. The CWA says Tra Mi could intensify into a typhoon or stronger.
The CWA weather forecast also said that in addition to the storm Trami in the East Sea, the northeast monsoon will strengthen from the afternoon of October 22 to October 23, causing rain in the northern coastal area of Keelung, mountainous areas of the Keelung-Taipei metropolitan area and Yilan County of Taiwan (China).
