The Organizing Committee of the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand has issued technical guides and schedules for competition for countries.
"After much waiting, the 33rd SEA Games athletics has issued a technical handbook. We have grasped the requirements as well as the preliminary competition schedule to prepare the most thoroughly participating forces, said Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung, General Secretary of the Vietnam Athletics Federation.
The Vietnamese athletics team focuses on the competition schedule of 1,500m, 3,000m hurdles, 5,000m and 10,000m for women at the 33rd SEA Games because this is the strength of athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh.
At the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia, Nguyen Thi Oanh won four gold medals in the above events. Currently, the Vietnam Athletics Team has not revealed how many events Nguyen Thi Oanh will participate in at the 33rd SEA Games.
With her professional ability and favorable schedule, Nguyen Thi Oanh can fully participate in the above events. However, the tactics and actual competition situation in Thailand will determine the number of events she will participate in.
Preliminary competition schedule for the SEA Games 33 Athletics: women's 1,500m event on December 11, 5,000m event on December 13, 10,000m event on December 15 and women's 3,000m obstacle event on December 16. With the above plan, if the athletes participate in all four distances, they will still have enough time to recover their physical strength for the next day after the previous competition.

The 33rd SEA Games Athletics discipline stipulates that each country can register a maximum of two athletes for each individual event. The teams will register the official list with the Organizing Committee of the 33rd SEA Games Athletics event on September 26
Nguyen Thi Oanh has just won gold medals in all four events of 1,500m, 3,000m hurdles, 5,000m and 10,000m for women at the 2025 National Championship. She affirmed that she had not said about the 33rd SEA Games in advance because the standard time is only three months. The female player will actively adjust this stage.
Vietnam Sports recognizes Nguyen Thi Oanh as the Vietnamese track and field athlete with the best result in a SEA Games with four gold medals.
"The teams will attend a technical meeting before the official competition begins and this is the important decisive moment for the competition schedule, the number of athletes will be reduced to the final round," Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung added.
Nguyen Thi Oanh won 12 gold medals from the 29th SEA Games in 2017 to the 32nd SEA Games in 2023. If successful at the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand, she will be one of the most international-performing female athletes in Vietnam's athletics.
At the end of the 2025 National Athletics Championship, Nguyen Thi Oanh returned to practice at the National High-level Athletes Training Center (Hanoi). The team's coaching staff said that athletes in their high-level training cycle should check their professional indicators every week.
The 33rd SEA Games Athletics Tournament will officially be held from December 11 to December 16. The teams have been familiar with the stadium since December 10.
