Preparations for the 33rd SEA Games in Chonburi province (Thailand) continue to face reactions from construction contractors, when some units said they have not received the payment as committed and are considering stopping all activities.
According to Thairaith, on December 4, a social media account named Love Led posted information that the 33rd SEA Games organizers did not comply with the agreement on payment progress.
The article quickly attracted the attention of Thai public opinion, in the context of the congress organization being questioned about its preparation and professionalism.
The account said: "This is an oral agreement between the two sides and the organizers promising to deposit on Monday (December 1). However, they continued to postpone and scheduled to pay today (December 4).
Before that, on the second day, I stopped construction of some items. However, if I quit completely, my staff may not be able to find a new job."
This person also added that the organizers explained that changing the contractor in a short time was not feasible, so he continued to take on part of the work.
According to the post, the 33rd SEA Games organizing committee pledged to pay on December 4, but Love led said he felt uneasy about this: "I posted this post on the morning of December 4 to declare that if the money was not transferred before 4:00 p.m. the same day, the contract would be canceled.
I will work differently. To be honest, the organizing committee of the SEA Games is not clear. This is a big event, but the recruitment, signing and payment process does not seem clear."
Love led also said that many of his colleagues are participating in the project and he himself is under great pressure: "Because in addition to myself, I also brought friends and other partners to the event. In the end, I have to take responsibility for the work.
But at the same time, I also feel guilty towards the organizers, who have promised and canceled. So I posted a notice that if the money did not arrive before 4pm, everything would be invalid."
The incident occurred in the context of the 33rd SEA Games continuously facing negative reactions from domestic media. Many incidents have been recorded in recent days. Previously, the organizing committee had to apologize for the incident of not playing the National Anthem song in the match between U22 Vietnam and U22 Laos in men's football.
In addition, before the information related to the replacement of the creativity crew for the opening and closing ceremony of the 33rd SEA Games, Thai Tourism and Sports Minister Atthakorn Sirilatthayakorn denied all information that he was involved in the replacement of the creativity crew for the opening and closing ceremony of the 33rd SEA Games. He affirmed that the term started from October 1, when the 450 million baht budget had not been approved, and requested the whistleblower to provide evidence of having worked with the relevant State agency.
The largest sports festival in the region is expected to open in the near future, but the inadequacies related to the organization are causing the Thai public to express concerns about the event's operation and safety.
