On the afternoon of August 23, at the National Assembly House, Politburo Member, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man held talks with President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Ivory Coast Patrick Achi and the high-level delegation of the National Assembly of Ivory Coast who are on an official visit to Vietnam from August 23 - 26, 2026.
In an atmosphere of open and friendly exchange, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man expressed his pleasure that National Assembly Chairman Patrick Achi chose Vietnam as one of the first destinations in Asia since taking office in January 2026 and only 4 months after the two National Assembly Chairmen met on the occasion of attending the 152nd World Parliamentary Union Congress in Turkey in April 2026.
Highly appreciating the role of the Ivory Coast Parliament in promoting socio-economic stability and development, and affirming the leading position of Ivory Coast in West Africa, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man emphasized that today's parliament not only performs legislative and supervisory functions but also plays a bridge role between nations, promoting peace, justice and sustainable development.

Welcoming the National Assembly of Ivory Coast for the first time to organize a delegation to study, exchange, and share experiences with the National Assembly of Vietnam, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man proposed that the two sides identify cooperation on the parliamentary channel as a pillar and important foundation in the overall bilateral cooperation relationship, in which it is necessary to focus on effectively implementing the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the two National Assemblies, soon study the establishment of the Friendship Parliamentary Group at the National Assembly of each country and strengthen the sharing of legislative and supervisory experiences.
National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man expressed his pleasure at the positive progress in bilateral cooperation in the past time, which has made Ivory Coast Vietnam's largest trading partner in Africa in 2025 with a trade turnover of nearly 2 billion USD.
Emphasizing the role of creating a favorable environment for the development of the two legislative bodies, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man also proposed that the two sides strengthen coordination in urging and supervising the negotiation, signing and implementation of basic documents and agreements such as the Framework Cooperation Agreement between the two Governments, the Agreement on Avoiding Double Taxation and the Agreement on Encouraging and Protecting Investment.
Expressing admiration for Vietnam's outstanding development achievements under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, President of the Ivory Coast Parliament Patrick Achi emphasized that Vietnam's success is an inspiration for African countries, and Vietnam's development model may be the path that Ivory Coast can choose in the process of building and developing the country.

The President of the Ivory Coast National Assembly wished that the Vietnamese National Assembly would share experiences in law-making, supporting economic development, especially the development of agriculture, fisheries, technical training and vocational training, public financial management, innovation and experience in reforming the activities of the National Assembly.
The two sides also agreed to strengthen information exchange, promptly update new policies and regulations of each other, especially policies related to import and export, and attract foreign investment. National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man wished the National Assemblies of the two countries to promote the building of a transparent and stable business environment, creating favorable conditions for trade, diversifying import and export goods, towards the goal of reaching more than 3 - 5 billion USD in bilateral trade turnover in the coming time.
Regarding multilateral cooperation, the two leaders affirmed that the two countries will strengthen consultations, continue to give each other good feelings and valuable support at international forums, especially multilateral parliamentary forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the Francophone Parliamentary Union (APF).
National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man wished Ivory Coast to support Vietnam in strengthening substantive relations with the African Union (AU) and the Economic Community of West African Nations (ECOWAS). Vietnam is ready to act as a bridge for Ivory Coast to connect with ASEAN and member countries.
After the talks, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and the Chairman of the Ivory Coast National Assembly visited and surveyed digital transformation tools in legislation at the National Assembly House.
