Mr. Do Thanh Binh holds the position of Minister of Home Affairs

Mr. Do Thanh Binh - Permanent Deputy Minister of Home Affairs was approved to be appointed as Minister of Home Affairs.

On October 25, continuing the 10th Session, the National Assembly held a separate meeting on personnel work under the direction of Politburo member and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man.

The National Assembly listened to Standing Vice Chairman of the Delegation Work Committee Nguyen Huu Dong present a report summarizing the opinions of National Assembly deputies discussed at the delegation on approving the appointment of a number of ministers for the 2021-2026 term.

The National Assembly listened to National Assembly Standing Committee member, Permanent Deputy Head of the National Assembly Office Le Quang Manh (assigned to perform the duties of Secretary General of the National Assembly) present the draft Resolutions of the National Assembly on personnel work.

With 427/427 delegates participating in the vote, the National Assembly passed a Resolution approving the Prime Minister's proposal to appoint Mr. Do Thanh Binh to the position of Minister of Home Affairs.

Previously, on October 24, with 418/418 delegates participating in the vote, the National Assembly passed a Resolution approving the Prime Minister's proposal to dismiss Ms. Pham Thi Thanh Tra from the position of Minister of Home Affairs.

Thus, Mr. Do Thanh Binh will become the successor of Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra in the position of Commander of the Home Affairs sector.

Mr. Do Thanh Binh was born on March 15, 1967, from Ca Mau province. Professional qualifications: Master of Economics, Bachelor of Political Economics. He was a member of the 13th Party Central Committee, a delegate to the 15th National Assembly.

Mr. Do Thanh Binh grew up from the grassroots, having held many positions in Kien Giang (old) such as: Secretary of the District Youth Union, Chairman of the District People's Committee, Secretary of the Vinh Thuan District Party Committee; Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Organization Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee.

In January 2025, Mr. Do Thanh Binh was transferred and appointed by the Politburo to hold the position of Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee for the 2020-2025 term. After Can Tho City merged with Hau Giang and Soc Trang provinces, Mr. Do Thanh Binh was appointed by the Politburo and the Secretariat to hold the position of Secretary of the new Can Tho City Party Committee.

In Decision No. 2159/QD-TTg dated September 28, 2025, the Prime Minister received and appointed Mr. Do Thanh Binh to hold the position of Permanent Deputy Minister of Home Affairs.
