On 12.5 in Hanoi, the 35th anniversary of the establishment of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Institute (FES) in Vietnam took place in a solemn atmosphere, associated with the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the Federal Republic of Germany. At the celebration, there was the participation of Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hung - Vice Chairman of Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations and Helga Margarete, Ambassador of Germany in Vietnam.
On this occasion, Dr. Sabine Fandrych - FES General Secretary - made a two-day visit to Hanoi, reaffirming the organization's commitment to long-term international cooperation, sustainable development and reliable political dialogue.
Dr. Sabine Fandrych's visit took place in the context of the world experiencing many geopolitical and economic fluctuations. She emphasized the growing importance of the multilateral system, dialogue and cooperation.
In addition to the celebration activities, the FES General Secretary met and worked with many strategic partners of the organization in Vietnam such as the People's Assistance Coordinating Committee, Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and related units. The exchanges focused on key topics such as social justice, sustainable development and enhancing FES' role as a positive policy partner in Vietnam.
Ms. Sabine Fandrych has held the role of FES General Secretary and has been a member of the organization's Executive Board since July 2021. She has previously held leadership positions at FES representative offices in Angola, Ethiopia, the African Union and was a director of the Academy of Politics in Bonn, Germany.
FES is one of the first international non-governmental organizations to open a representative office in Hanoi in 1990. In more than three decades of operation, FES Vietnam has become a trusted partner in policy dialogue, promoting workers' rights, social justice and climate action.
At the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hung - Vice President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations - presented a Certificate of Merit to the FES Vietnam Institute, recognizing the organization's positive and persistent contributions to promoting cooperation and friendship between the people of the two countries.
Receiving a Certificate of Merit from the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations is a testament to the increasingly important role of the FES Institute in building a bridge of friendship and sustainable development between the two countries. In the coming time, FES Institute Vietnam will continue to affirm its role as a strategic partner, contributing to promoting progressive values in the challenging international context.
