The Association for Liaison with Overseas Vietnamese (Association) considers teaching Vietnamese to overseas Vietnamese, especially to the young generation in the community, as one of the focuses of the Association's work to maintain and strengthen cultural connections, communication skills and consciousness of origin for our compatriots abroad.
Responding to the "Vietnamese Language Honoring Day in the Overseas Vietnamese Community" promulgated by the Prime Minister (September 8 every year), the Association has sent experts to actively participate in joint activities on teaching and learning Vietnamese for the overseas Vietnamese community chaired by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese - Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Education and Training, such as annual Vietnamese language teacher training courses, and "Finding Vietnamese Ambassadors" contests.
At the same time, based on the Agreement between the Association and the University of Foreign Languages - Vietnam National University, Hanoi, the online Vietnamese teaching curriculum "I learn Vietnamese" has been compiled and has now been released bilingually with 10 versions, creating favorable conditions for learners through social networks. Coordinating with Vietnamese associations in localities, the Association has also taken advantage of the cooperation of teachers and students of foreign language departments of the University of Foreign Languages mentioned above to open 15 online Vietnamese classes in the UK, 10 classes in Japan, 17 classes in Taiwan (China), attracting hundreds of students to participate.
In the near future, the Association will compile and publish more bilingual versions of the curriculum "I learn Vietnamese"; on that basis, coordinate with Vietnamese associations to open more online Vietnamese classes in other areas. The Association also coordinates with the Association for the Protection of the Rights of Performing Artists (APPA) to deploy the movement to learn Vietnamese through folk songs and Vietnamese songs, and at the same time successively organize the "I love my country's language" contest in some European and Japanese areas and organize the final of the contest in Vietnam, achieving very encouraging results.
Regarding charity and social work, in response to the call of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the Association has raised 120 million VND from members of the Association at home and abroad to build 2 houses for the poor in Dien Bien province on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory.
After the storm and flood disaster occurred in two years 2024 and 2025, the Association raised 116 million VND, 3,200 boxes of medicine, 100 boxes of bread, 220 boxes of mineral water and some books and school supplies to support people affected in Thai Nguyen and Quang Binh - the two most heavily damaged localities.
