Teachers and History Students are lost
Prof. Dr. Dinh Xuan Lam was born on February 4, 1925, in Ha Tinh, in a family of Nguyen Dynasty neo-noir. After graduating with a full certificate in philosophy - Literature from Quoc Hoc Hue University, Mr. Dinh Xuan Lam returned to Thanh Hoa and decided to choose a teaching career. In 1945, right after the success of the August Revolution, he became one of the first high school professors in the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.
At the end of 1954, he was sent to Hanoi to study at the University of Literature, majoring in History - Geography, then was retained as a lecturer in History at Hanoi University of Science and Humanities (now the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU-UghN) and worked there until retirement 1990).
During nearly 4 decades of teaching and research at the Faculty of History, he has continuously strived for his expertise, and was awarded the title of Prof.ND by the State. In particular, he contributed to the creation of a History school - the University of General Studies school.
According to the research of Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh (Faculty of History, University of Economics and Technology, Vietnam National University), for more than half a century of teaching and scientific research, he has always been closely attached to the History major, leaving deep impressions in the memories of colleagues and students through lectures on the modern history of Vietnam, the Can Vuong Movement, or the characteristics of French colonialism...
Associate Professor, Dr. Do Bang, Vice President of the Vietnam Historical Science Association, commented: As Chairman of the Department of Near and Modern History of Vietnam, Professor, People's Artist Dinh Xuan Lam has trained many generations of excellent students, many prestigious professors and doctors to hold many important positions in the educational, training and scientific environment of the country as well as in political and social organizations at the central and local levels.
As of 2015, in nearly 60 years of writing, he has published more than 500 scientific publications including reference books, reference books, textbooks, guides, and articles in journals with diverse types and research topics.
Before passing away at the age of 92, Prof. Dr. Dinh Xuan Lam was Vice President of the Vietnam Historical Science Association, a prestigious teacher of Vietnamese historical community.
Impressive in the memories of students and colleagues
At the seminar, many colleagues, students, and relatives of Prof. Dr. Dinh Xuan Lam sat down, sharing stories and memories revolving around the life associated with the research and cultivation career of the late teacher.
Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Dinh Le (Faculty of History, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU-HHHHN) said: "Teacher Dinh Xuan Lam is a servant (as Professor. Tran Quoc Vuong said), but he lives a simple, tolerant, moderate life, and thrift".
Historical scholar Duong Trung Quoc, Vice President of the Vietnam Historical Science Association, commented that the achievements that Professor, People's Artist Dinh Xuan Lam achieved during his lifetime were not only the massive collections and research works but also many generations of talented students. Now, they become teachers who continue to expand and impart knowledge to younger generations.
Representing the family, Ms. Dang Phuong Lan, the eldest daughter-in-law of Prof. Dr. Dinh Xuan Lam, co-founder of the Dinh Xuan Lam Award, said that this is his wish at the end of his life.
He knows that this sport is full of difficulties for beginners. Therefore, he wants to do something to help those who decide to take this path" - Ms. Phuong Lan said.
To fulfill that wish, since its inception in 2017, the Dinh Xuan Lam Award has been carrying out the mission of encouraging and motivating young people to learn history and research history, firmly on their path of academic creativity.
