Mr. Nguyen Van Huy, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ly Son Special Zone, presented a Certificate of Merit to Mr. Phan Duy Quang and Mr. Le Van Sanh for their bravery in rushing to the sea to save people in especially dangerous weather conditions. Mr. Le Thanh Hung, owner of the An Vinh Express ship, was also awarded a Certificate of Merit for his achievements in rescue work in the midst of the storm.
Previously, on the afternoon of November 6, due to family conflicts, Mr. D.Q.C (44 years old, residing in Tay An Vinh village) jumped from Ly Son port with the intention of committing suicide. Discovering the incident, Mr. Sanh and Mr. Quang immediately used a basket to jump into the sea to save people, despite the big waves and strong winds.
After putting Mr. C. in the basket and wearing a life jacket, the strong waves pushed the basket about 2 nautical miles away from shore, then overturned, causing all three to fall into the sea. In the dark, in the midst of big waves, they still try to hold on, helping each other overcome the waves. By dawn on November 7, due to exhaustion, both rescuers were forced to separate and let loose.
For many hours drifting at sea, they eat seaweed, crab, drift fruit and drink seawater to maintain their lives. On the morning of November 8, the cargo ship Hai Nam 39 discovered and rescued Mr. Quang, then transferred him to the An Vinh Express ship to continue the search. From the information provided, the rescue team found Mr. Sanh. Mr. D.Q.C. was rescued by the fishing boat QB-92198.TS of Quang Tri fishermen and transferred to the Hoa Binh high-speed boat to safety.
All three were brought to the mainland in the emotions of their family and Ly Son people. After two days of treatment at the Military - Civil Medicine Center combined with Ly Son Speciality, Mr. Quang and Mr. Sanh's health have stabilized. Mr. C. was transferred to the mainland on the afternoon of November 9 for further treatment.
Their act of forgetting to save people in the middle of the storm was recognized by the government and people, spreading the spirit of humanity and courage of the people of the frontlands.
