Mekong Delta - To limit damage caused by storms, high tides, and floods, people in low-lying areas of the Mekong Delta reinforce their house foundations and stay in the fields to protect agricultural products.

To limit the situation of water flooding into the house due to rising flood waters, Mr. Quang Khoi Ngo (Nga Nam town, Soc Trang province) has been busy preparing wood, sandbags, and soil to create walkways and reinforce the house foundation.

It is known that the previous high tide and heavy rain caused Mr. Ngo's house floor to be 5cm deep. This made daily activities and cooking difficult.

Mr. Ngo said: "Recently, the flood water came, heavy rain flooded the floor of the house, I have to hold my baby in my arms all the time, and I have to wear boots to walk. If the high tide this October is low, some sandbags and rocks can limit the water from entering, after the water recedes, I will buy materials to build the foundation later."

In Vi Thuy district, Hau Giang province, these days Mr. Nguyen Van Ut (57 years old) is on duty in the fields, monitoring the water levels of the rivers to promptly pump water to save the rice.

"The rice is in the ripening stage. If we are negligent and let the water level rise and there is heavy rain, the damage will be extensive. For the past 2-3 days, I have been going to the fields every day to monitor the rice and pump water to protect it when the price is high," said Mr. Ut.

According to the forecast of the Hau Giang Province Hydrometeorological Station, from October to mid-November, storms, tropical depressions, heavy rains, floods, high tides and natural disasters such as tornadoes, floods, landslides... will develop quite complicatedly.

In October, in Hau Giang and the Mekong Delta localities, there will be 2 high water levels from October 4-7 and October 18-24. The water level is forecast to exceed alarm level III at Cai Con River by 0.15-0.28m, at Xa No canal by 0.10-0.25m...

High tides and flood waters on the Hau River and possibly combined with heavy rain in places will cause water levels to rise, posing a risk of widespread flooding.
