On August 27, the Southern Expressway Project Management Board - Branch of Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) has just issued a document requesting opinions on the traffic organization plan to serve the construction of the two packages XL01 and XL02 of the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh Expressway expansion project.
The Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh expressway expansion project is being implemented in the form of emergency construction works.
In particular, the section from Ring Road 2 intersection to Ring Road 3 intersection (Km4+000 - Km8+844.5), nearly 5 km long, will be expanded from 4 lanes to 8 lanes.
The section from the Ring Road 3 intersection to the intersection with the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway (excluding the Long Thanh bridge area), nearly 15 km long, will be expanded from 4 lanes to 10 lanes.
In particular, Long Thanh Bridge, over 2.3km long, will build a new bridge with a scale of 5 complete lanes (with an emergency lane) in the direction from Ho Chi Minh City to Long Thanh, located on the right side of the existing bridge with a width of 23.75m.
With the characteristics of the project, it is impossible to currently allocate land for the construction of service roads along the route to serve the construction, so the XL01 and XL02 packages need to access the construction site from the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh Expressway.
The project's design consultant has developed a traffic assurance plan for each package as follows:
Package XL01- Km4+00 to Km13+900 (end of Long Thanh bridge) is constructed in 4 phases. In which, phase 1, the foundation, pillar body, and beams are implemented through the service road system, not affecting the exploitation of the existing Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway; phase 2, the contractor is forced to use the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway to transport girders and conduct cross-traffic; phase 3, construction of the bridge deck and completion of the above structures; phase 4, traffic organization on the newly completed and upgraded section of the old road.
The XL02-Km13+900 to Km25+920 package is also under construction in 4 phases. In which, phase 1 (excavation, excavation of unsuitable materials, treatment of weak soil) if there is no service road, the contractor will approach the construction site from the highway, remove the corrugated iron to make a way to approach the construction site.
In phase 2, to meet the required progress, the contractor was forced to develop a construction measure for the girder using the existing Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway to transport the girder and carry out the ngangling. During this phase, the road will continue to be constructed up to the foundation and road surface items. The locations approaching the construction site are still maintained as a way to transport construction materials and equipment.
Phase 3, construction of the bridge deck and completion of the above components. Proceeding to install fences along the bridge length, connecting to fences along the route.
Phase 4, traffic organization on the newly completed expansion route, upgrading the old road surface.
Previously, during the construction of the Long Thanh bridge expansion joints on the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway (from July 15 to July 30, but 5 days ahead of schedule), there was a long traffic jam.
