Tan Ky - Tan Quy Bridge is located on the route of the same name, spanning the Tham Luong - Ben Cat canal. The project has a total length of 385 m, of which the bridge is 83 m long with 4 lanes and two sidewalks.
The two ends of the bridge are access roads and auxiliary facilities such as: service roads, embankments along Tham Luong canal, drainage system, trees and lighting.
The Tan Ky - Tan Quy bridge project was approved in 2017 and started construction in early 2018 under the BOT form, with the Infrastructure Development Investment Joint Stock Company (IDICO-IDI) as the investor. Initially, the project had a total capital of 312 billion VND, but was later adjusted to 668 billion VND due to the addition of loan interest costs.
By the end of 2018, the project had completed 70% of the volume but was stalled due to problems in site clearance and was not in accordance with Resolution 437 of the National Assembly, which stipulates that BOT investment on existing roads is not allowed.
In October 2022, Ho Chi Minh City decided to change the investment form from BOT to budget capital, with a total investment of 491 billion VND.
Mr. Trinh Linh Phuong - Deputy Director of the Management Board of Investment and Construction of Traffic Works in Ho Chi Minh City, said that the opening of Tan Ky - Tan Quy bridge will not only remove the "bottleneck" in the area, but also directly connect with Tan Ky - Tan Quy route. From there, it will create a smooth traffic axis from National Highway 1 to Tan Son Nhat airport and the city center.
“Tan Ky - Tan Quy Bridge is a testament to the city’s efforts to overcome difficulties in converting from the BOT model to public investment. This is an important step in completing the regional transport network,” said Mr. Phuong.
At the opening ceremony, Mr. Bui Xuan Cuong - Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, shared that 2025 will be the time when the city will face increasing traffic pressure, requiring the completion of many important infrastructure projects.
“Putting backlogged projects such as Tan Ky - Tan Quy bridge into operation is of great significance in reducing traffic congestion and at the same time creating momentum for socio-economic development,” Mr. Cuong emphasized.
In addition to Tan Ky - Tan Quy bridge, Ho Chi Minh City will complete a series of key projects from now until Lunar New Year 2025, including: Hoang Hoa Tham street, Tran Quoc Hoan - Cong Hoa connecting road (phase 1), Duong Quang Ham street (phase 1), Luong Dinh Cua street (phase 1), the entire Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Huu Tho intersection and Ba Hom bridge.
