The Traffic Department states the reason for the delay in the opening of the first elevated road in Ho Chi Minh City

On the afternoon of December 4, the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (Traffic Board) informed about the construction progress of the 14.7 km long eastern overpass (altitude road) (from Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway to Tan Van intersection).

This is the elevated section of Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 that was committed to open to traffic on December 19, 2025.

However, in the report dated November 25, 2025 during a working session with Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh, the Traffic Department included this section in the group of "technical traffic congestion" and expected to postpone the official opening to 2026, different from the time frame that has been reported many times. Ho Chi Minh City plans to build Can Gio Bridge worth over VND13,200 billion, starting construction in 2027

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction has just submitted to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee a pre-feasibility study report for the Can Gio bridge construction project under the form of public-private partnership (PPP), BT contract (build - transfer).

According to the report, the project has a total length of more than 6.3 km. Of which, Can Gio Bridge is nearly 3 km long; the approach road and bridges on the route are more than 3.2 km long.

The starting point of the project is on Road 15B (Nha Be Commune), about 500 m from Muong Ngang Canal, then cut through Nguyen Binh Street and cross the Soai Rap River. Towards Binh Khanh commune, Can Gio bridge connects to the intersection between Rung Sac road and Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway. See more...

Prohibiting vehicles from traveling through the tunnel across the Saigon River
