The case of spreading information about a kidnapped girl in Ho Chi Minh City to call for charity with signs of fraud

HCMC - In recent days, videos and information have been circulating online about a girl in Phu Giao commune, HCMC being kidnapped and assaulted and hospitalized to call for charity.

Regarding the above incident, on the evening of July 23, the leader of the People's Committee of Phu Giao commune, Ho Chi Minh City said that the video and the information being spread were completely fabricated and showed signs of fraud. The leaders of Phu Giao Commune People's Committee have directed the Commune Police to urgently investigate.

Verification results show that no of the above incidents occurred in the locality on July 22. This is a staged case for the purpose of fraud, profiting from the goodwill of the community.

Talking to reporters, Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuoi (70 years old, living in Dong Nai province - the grandmother of N.H.L - the girl who was shown in the charity call) said that in recent days, some online accounts have been using her grandchild's information to commit fraud.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuoi, N.H.L is from Hung Thinh commune, Dong Nai province, not from Phu Giao, Ho Chi Minh City.

Previously, N.H.L was traveling with a friend when she had a cerebral aneurysm rupture from April 10, 2025. At this time, the family was in too many difficulties, N.H.L's friend posted it online to ask for support. However, the family has stopped receiving support since April 11, 2025 and has deleted the call information.

"The child is still being treated at Ho Chi Minh City Hospital for rehabilitation exercises. Currently, the family has not posted information calling for support on any account" - Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuoi affirmed.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuoi, yesterday (July 22), information suddenly appeared that N.H.L was kidnapped and assaulted online. "This is fake information. The accounts calling for support for the child also belonged to scammers. However, many people transferred money to this account number, then called my family. I would like to confirm that this is the information and account number of the scammers. I hope people do not trust and do not transfer money to these subjects," Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuoi expressed.

Previously, a video was circulated online recording a girl being forced into a car by a man with a loud scream. The video comes with a touching status about a kidnapping and assault.

According to the content of the circulation, the victim in the video is N.H.L (born in 2004, An Binh commune, Phu Giao district, Binh Duong province - now Phu Giao commune, Ho Chi Minh City).

This information said that on July 22, N.H.L went out with a new friend online and was forced to get in the car. After a few hours of the police's search, the kidnappers threw the victim onto the road and ran away. The girl was then taken to the police for emergency treatment

The article also details L's health condition as a brain injury, a smash that led to cerebral hemorrhage, cerebral vascular rupture... Along with that is a call for hospital fees, because L's family only has father and children and expired health insurance.

The person calling for help also provided the account number of the person believed to be N.H.L's father and left the phone number of L's grandmother, hoping for support for hospital fees from the community.
