The 500kV Lao Cai - Vinh Yen transmission line project is in the final stage with high progress pressure, particularly complex construction terrain, and the weather entering the rainy season, creating one of the most arduous construction "battle" of the electricity industry in 2025.
In recent days, 100 officers and soldiers of Military Region 2 along with 15 vehicles and mechanical equipment have been present at key locations in Vinh Phuc to support the construction.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Vu Thanh Tung, Deputy Brigade Commander of the 543rd Engineering Brigade ( milestone 2), Vinh Phuc weather this season is harsh, sunny during the day, heavy rain at night, and the temporary road is slippery and muddy. Every day, the engineering commanders and project leaders update the situation, assess the current situation on the field, thereby agreeing on a plan to arrange forces to be reasonable and optimize work efficiency on the site.
In Song Lo district, the 370 position post is up to 130 meters high - among the highest columns in the entire route. However, the geological foundation here is weak fields, flooded all year round. When digging the foundation, the diluted mud continuously overflows into the foundation pit, making the construction extremely complicated, forcing the units to use continuous anti-landslide and anti-landslide measures, while coordinating human resources and equipment day and night to ensure progress.
At location 375, the column is located on a high mountain top with rugged terrain and a large slope. The temporary road to this location is winding and convex, causing great difficulties in the transportation of materials and equipment.
In the first days at the construction site, many young soldiers were surprised by the huge amount of work and difficult construction conditions when they first came into contact with the work on the power project. However, the spirit of learning and support from engineers and workers in the electricity industry quickly helped the soldiers get acquainted and keep up with the urgent working rhythm.
Mr. Phan Ho Quang, Deputy Director of the Power 1 Project Management Board - said that the terrain is rugged, the geological background is complicated, and the temporary road with a large slope makes every stage extremely arduous. Some columns even have to be installed completely manually because the ground is too narrow, and cannot carry cranes or mechanical equipment. All of these factors are creating a great obstacle to the overall progress of the project.
In that difficult context, timely support from Military Region 2 is an important factor in helping to remove difficulties, ensuring the safety and overall progress of the entire project. This demonstrates the solidarity of the army and people, the high sense of responsibility of the armed forces in the development of national energy infrastructure, Deputy Director of the Power Project Management Board 1.
The 500kV Lao Cai - Vinh Yen transmission line project is 229.5km long, with a total investment of VND 7,410 billion, passing through 4 provinces: Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Phu Tho and Vinh Phuc.
After being put into operation, the line is capable of transmitting about 3,000 MW from hydropower plants in the Northwest region and neighboring provinces to the national grid, increasing the ability to import electricity. At the same time, it creates connections between areas in the power system, improves safe and stable operation for the national power system, and reduces power loss in the transmission grid.
