On November 23, the driver reported the situation of thieves crawling through the highway protection fence and breaking into the cabin door to steal property at the Phan Thiet intersection (km234 of the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet Expressway). This location is in Ham Kiem commune, Lam Dong province.

Driver Ngo Viet Thanh (born in 1998, residing in Ho Chi Minh City) said that while driving a tractor-trailer in the South - North direction to the end of Phan Thiet - Dau Giay Expressway, he stopped at a bright spot, near the km234 milestone to sleep due to drowsiness.
While resting behind the driver's seat, he heard a noise from the upper head. Taken apart, he discovered that the thief was taking his wallet and phone.

Driver Thanh jumped out of the car to chase after him, but the two thieves quickly jumped into the drainage ditch and stood near the highway fence, with a pre-cut underpass.
According to Mr. Thanh, there was 4.5 million VND in his wallet, in addition, the thief also took an iPhone. The dash cam on the windshield was covered with a refrigerator so as not to record.
"I don't dare to chase away because I'm afraid of danger. When I returned to the car, these two thieves continued to go back to the highway, intending to approach another truck that was stopped nearby, said Mr. Thanh.

After shouting, the group of thieves ran and crawled through the fence, onto the residential road outside the highway. Because he had to continue his journey and lost his phone, Mr. Thanh did not report to the commune police.
Reporters' records at the milestone of km234 of the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet expressway show that the expressway protection fence is a B40 net mounted on the iron frame. A net is cut into a square, wide enough for one person to pass.

The steel part on the fence was cut with a straight cut, located right at the foot of the fence. In addition, many other locations on the highway's barbed wire fence may have been cut or peeled, creating large holes.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Nguyen Khac Viet - Executive Director of the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet Expressway Project - said that the work of ensuring security and order requires the coordination of local authorities. Mr. Viet reported to the leaders of Ham Kiem Commune People's Committee to strengthen inspection and handling.
It is known that the Phan Thiet intersection has lights at night, and there are no parking strips on the road. However, some drivers have stopped their vehicles overnight, posing a potential risk of traffic insecurity and theft as in the above case.
