Acting Minister of Agriculture and Environment calls for support for people in flood-affected areas

Acting Minister of Agriculture and Environment Tran Duc Thang has launched a campaign for the entire sector to support people affected by storms and floods in 2025.

In September and early October, Vietnam has been hit by 5 consecutive typhoons, of which typhoon No. 9 (Ragasa), typhoon No. 10 (Bualoi) and typhoon No. 11 ( Matmo) have had a huge impact and have caused severe impacts on people and property in many localities in the Northern and Central regions.

In that situation, on the afternoon of October 8, Acting Minister Tran Duc Thang called on the entire agricultural sector to join hands to support people affected by floods.

"In the face of difficulties and urgency due to the storm and flood situation, it is necessary to proactively join hands and contribute efforts from each person, in the most difficult times, an opportunity for each of us to express the spirit of solidarity, "mutual love", promoting the tradition of "the healthy leaves cover the torn leaves".

Responding to the call of the Party, State leaders and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, I call on and launch a campaign for all cadres, civil servants, public employees and workers in the entire agricultural and environmental sector to donate and support each person with at least one day's salary to help people overcome difficulties, overcome the consequences and soon stabilize their lives and production," said Acting Minister Tran Duc Thang.

In addition, the Acting Minister of Agriculture and Environment also requested specialized units to proactively coordinate, improve the quality of forecasts and provide, and update full and timely information on the developments of tropical depressions, storms, and floods to competent agencies and people to proactively respond; strengthen inspections of irrigation works, dykes, dams, irrigation reservoirs, etc. that are vulnerable, damaged, or at risk of being unsafe to have solutions to overcome, ensure the requirements of prevention, control, and response to natural disasters and floods in the last months of 2025; proactively advise "from early, from afar" to direct response, minimizing damage to people and property caused by natural disasters.

Leaders, officers and employees of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment have enthusiastically responded to the call and simultaneously supported people in flood-affected areas. Immediately after the launching ceremony, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment recorded the amount of donations of nearly 1 billion VND. The Vietnam Agricultural and Environment Trade Union will coordinate with units under the Ministry to continue launching support for people; receive, synthesize and transfer donations to the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, ensuring publicity, transparency and the right subjects.

Also on October 8, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment issued a decision on receiving international emergency aid from Samaritan's Purse to provide relief to Ha Tinh, Tuyen Quang and Lang Son provinces.

Millions of arms turn to compatriots affected by storms and floods

Consecutive storms No. 8, 9.10 (Bualoi) and floods caused by the storm have killed, left missing, and injured 165 people; many houses and production and business establishments have had their roofs blown off and suffered heavy damage. People across the northern mountainous provinces and the central provinces are struggling to cope with floods and heavy losses in human lives and property due to floods and thunderstorms.
