Nghe An - Floods that lasted all night caused many roads and headquarters in Tam Thai commune to be deeply flooded, causing many damages.

On the morning of July 7, speaking with a reporter from Lao Dong newspaper, Mr. Lo Duong Khanh - Chairman of the People's Committee of Tam Thai commune (old Tuong Duong district), Nghe An province said that the work to overcome the consequences of floods in the area is being urgently carried out.

Previously, on July 5 and 6, Tam Thai commune experienced many large-scale heavy rains, lasting for many hours in a row. Heavy rain caused flooding, locally isolating some areas, causing damage to agricultural production, seafood and people's property.

The flood has flooded the first floor of the headquarters of the Public Administration Service Center, directly affecting citizen reception activities and handling administrative procedures. Rising floodwaters caused flooding of bridges, spillways, and complete disruption of the main road leading to 5 villages and the commune's headquarters, making it difficult to direct and operate.

Regarding production damage, 150m2 of plantings were affected (of which damage was over 70%: 50m2, partial damage was under 30%: 100m2), 0.05ha of fish farming area was damaged from 3050%. The floods did not cause any human casualties but seriously affected the operations of the government, as well as the lives, activities and production of the people.

The People's Committee of the commune has proactively implemented response plans, assigned staff to be on duty, supported people at isolated locations, ensured safety, and moved machinery and assets to higher ground to limit damage.

By the morning of July 7, the rain had stopped and the water level was receding rapidly. It is expected that at around 10am the same day, the traffic route to the commune headquarters and 5 inner-city villages will be opened.

Tam Thai commune was merged from the two communes of Tam Thai and Tam Hop, the headquarters was located in Tam Hop commune. On the same morning, commune officials continued to grasp the area to guide traffic, support people to overcome landslides, and stabilize production life.

Previously, Lao Dong reported that from July 3 to the morning of July 6, in Na Loi commune (old Ky Son district) of Nghe An province, there was continuous heavy rain with flash floods, causing landslides on inter-village and inter-commune roads.

On the night of July 5, heavy rain, water from the streams' upstream poured down, damaging traffic routes and cutting off some villages. A temporary bridge in Na Loi 2 village was washed away, the road connecting the commune center with Xuoi San and Pieng Lau villages was temporarily interrupted.

Notably, a car carrying equipment while trying to cross the deep flooded section overturned on the side of the stream.

Many households have had to be urgently evacuated due to the risk of further landslides. Highland villages such as Huoi Khai 2, Pha Khao and Huoi Thum are being closely monitored because of weak soil after many rainy days.

Na Loi commune is coordinating with border guards, militia and people to mobilize machinery and human resources to urgently repair temporary roads and level rocks and soil.
